ART ACTION @ THE STATION, an auction of more than 30 works by local, national and international artists, took place at The Station in Bristol city centre on Thursday 18 October.

The event was attended by a host of acclaimed artists, partners and supporters of The Station including David Miliband, brother to Ed Miliband, leader of the Labour Party. Originally a Labour initiative, the myplace scheme, which aimed to transform the provision of youth facilities across the country, provided early funding for The Station.

Raising £3,500, the auction was organised by Creative Youth Network and Art Action for Kids. All the money raised will help to fund creative projects at The Station, Bristol's new 32,000 sq ft youth hub.

Art work by Shepard Fairey, Pure Evil and Bristol's own Nick Walker among others was auctioned off. Nave, the winner of The Station's Artwork Competition and a promising young stencil artist, saw his work hung alongside the professionals.

Sandy Hore-Ruthven, CEO of Creative Youth Network said: "The auction was a great success and a brilliant night; I'd like to thank all of the artists who donated work, everyone who attended and bid on the incredible pieces and all of the young people that entered The Station Artwork competition. We've raised an incredible amount that will help to fund some exciting, creative projects here at The Station."

An exclusive artist proof print of Shepard Fairey's 'Moon over Biloxi was raffled on the night. Shepard is a heavy weight in the international street art scene and the man behind the iconic Barrack Obama Hope posters used in the 2008 US presidential campaign.

SSH... Station Starts Here, The Station's official launch extravaganza is taking place this weekend (Friday 19 - Sunday 21October). 'Fashion Friday' will feature a fashion show with the theme Re-duce, Re-use, Re-cycle showcasing work by young people, UWE fashion students and local designers.

Days two and three, Saturday 20 – Sunday 21 October, will be the 'Main Event' and the 'Sunday Session' which take on a more festival feel. Organised by Youth For Youth, the Saturday will showcase local youth music talent, and feature dance workshops, a UV DJ room and creative workshops. UK Grime star Tinchy Stryder will be taking the stage at the end of the night. Sunday will be a more chilled out vibe and feature film, theatre and circus workshops.
