Pub Regulars Swap Pints For Exercise Bike To Cycle From Land End To John O'Groats

PUB regulars have swapped their pints for a stint on an exercise bike at Bristol pub to cycle 603 miles- the distance from Land's End to John o' Groats.

The Ship Inn, in Alveston, has completed its next charity challenge in aid of Prostate Cancer by getting individuals and teams to cycle distances and raise money to reach the goal.

A map was installed in the pub plotting how far the riders have travelled each day over a two week period to reach the finish line on Father's Day (June 17).

All funds raised via sponsorship and collection buckets will go the Prostate Cancer Charity, the UK's leading voluntary organisation working with people affected by prostate cancer.

The challenge came hot off of the heels of the pubs bath appeal, which saw pub goers donate their toiletries in a bath for elderly patients at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.

Landlady Donna Telford, 47, who has run the pub for the past eight years, said: "Our bath appeal was a huge success and we wanted to continue our charitable efforts.

"As soon as the bath was removed we brought in the exercise bike and asked our regulars and staff to support our next challenge.

"As Father's Day was approaching we thought it was a good idea to raise money for Prostate Cancer research and raise awareness of the charity.

"We received an excellent response from all the participants who started the challenge at the start of June and overall we have raised £1500."

The 15th century Tudor Coaching Inn in Thornbury Road is set to continue its mammoth fundraising initiatives over the coming months.
