St. Katherine's reaches 90% after six successive years of improvement

St. Katherine's School in Ham Green, near Bristol is celebrating its best-ever GCSE results today. Everyone at the school is absolutely delighted to learn that an incredible 90% of students achieved five or more A* to C grades – the highest ever achieved by a North Somerset school.  37% of students achieved three or more A* or A grades.

The school has now had six years of strong improvement since 2005 when 50% achieved five good GCSEs.  Year on year St. Katherine's has seen its results improve from 50%, to 52%, to 58%, 69%, 70% and 82% last year.  These improvements are an outstanding achievement for the school.

Outstanding individual GCSE performers include:

•    Jodie Richardson    6 A*s, 4 As

•    Hannah Tirbooman    6 A*s, 4 As

•    Ellie McGurk        5 A*s, 7 As

•    Rowan Newman    5 A*s, 7 As

•    Dan Moreton        5 A*s, 5 As

•    Montana Mulzac    4 A*s, 8 As

•    Isabel Sharp        4 A*s, 7 As

•    Hannah Smith        4 A*s, 6 As

•    Louise Rowbotham    4 A*s, 5 As

•    Bethany Howe        4 A*s, 5 As

Amongst the top achievers were two sets of twins.

•    Lucy Carleton    4 A*s, 7 As and Rosie Carleton 4 A*s, 3 As

•    Ben Stagg 3 A*s, 9 As and Luke Stagg 3 A*s, 8 As

Headteacher Stephanie Quayle said: "This school year has been an incredibly successful one for St. Katherine's School as we saw the opening of our brilliant hospitality facility and student-led community restaurant, an excellent Ofsted report and outstanding A level results last week.  Today's GCSE results, with 90% of students achieving five good GCSEs, top all these achievements."

As a specialist science college, the school is particularly pleased with today's science results where 100% of students who took GCSE Triple Science were awarded A* - C grades in Biology, Physics and Chemistry and 75% of those who took double award science achieved two or more A*-C grades. Over 50% of students achieved A*-C grades for Maths and English.

St. Katherine's is a national lead school for Gifted and Talented work and are really pleased to see that today more than one in every three students achieved three or more A* or A grades. Headteacher Stephanie Quayle added: "We are delighted that these results reflect outstanding performances by a very large number of students.  The students and staff at St. Katherine's worked exceptionally hard this year and deserve to be hugely proud of their achievements."
