Well People's.It looks as if Tesco is going to take over "The Foresters"and turn it into one of there Metro Stores.If this comes off,to me this will be the best new's that I have heard in years as it will(I hope)cut down a lot on the Drink and Drug problems that we have in Westbury.

    My family and I completely agree with @henleazebloke in relation to the tesco in the village.
    We know of a businessman who wanted to buy the now closed Foresters pub as a café by day and restaurant by night, with a Parisian feel. This would have been perfect for the village but he was blocked in trying to buy it.
    Is competion for the Costcutter and local greengrocers, butchers and bakeries really what we want? People loiter outside any tescos, irrelevant of the area; buying cigarrettes, lottery tickets, cheap booze and dropping litter. so not much different from the Foresters! Not only that, but why would you need a tesco in Westbury when you have two close by in Henleaze and Southmead? It would completely destroy the village feel.
    We have enough heavy traffic through our village as it stands, and do not need tesco delivery lorries ontop of this.

    @Garden Trappings

    Henleaze Co-Op is worse than the Westbury one. I don't use it much; neither do I use the Tesco. Fair comment re Waitrose although I don't personally use it for a main shop. My question is, why do you think people have to shop in supermarkets/chain stores when the independent shops are so much better? By your argument, you should be telling everyone to go to B & Q for their garden stuff!

    Well,Henleazebloke.It's OK For you to have a Waitrose,Tesco Metro and a Co-Op.And for us just to have a not very good Co-Op.Score 3-1 to Henleaze,I dont think so!!!

    People can already do their food shopping in Westbury! There's a butcher, two bakeries and a greengrocer. OK there isn't a fishmonger I grant you but there's one in North View, which isn't too far away. There is simply no need for a Tesco.

    BTW, is there any truth in the rumour I heard recently that Sainsburys want to take over the premises currently occupied by Blockbuster?

    I am a local bussniss and it cant be to soon for me if Tecso do take over the Foresters,and talking to other people who make a living in Westbury I am not alone in my view.We need another food outlet to take on the Co-op,It might make them up there game a little,and also it may stop people going out of the Village to do there food shop.
