SusWot (Sustainable Westbury-on-Trym) are delighted to announce an Eco Fiesta in the village on Sunday 20th September, and we hope you’ll be able to come along. Entry is free, and there’ll be lots to see and do, with stalls, competitions, prizes and entertainment, including puppet theatre, story-telling and bicycle-powered Smoothie making!

It’s from 2-5pm, in a specially pedestrianised part of the High St - the section between the war memorial and Westbury Court Rd/Church Rd. The roundabout at the war memorial will remain open to traffic, as will Westbury Court Rd, Church Rd and all the other surrounding roads.

We’ll be showcasing some of the things we’ve been working on since our launch last year, with activities on energy saving, recycling, sustainable transport and local food-growing. There’ll be plant sales and tops tips on organic gardening; we have Shirley Bee, and some real bees, and a chance to sample the delights of food-foraging; and if you’re already growing stuff, and have more harvest than you know what to do with, just bring it along to our “swap” table. The same goes for books and small toys. For big items you’d like to give away, try Freecycle instead, at tinyurl.com/49sezg

There’ll also be advice on saving money by calculating and reducing your carbon footprint, and a key part of the day will be our eco-pledge tree. It’s now accepted that climate change from our over-use of oil, gas and coal is real, and it’s happening now. There’s huge peer-reviewed scientific evidence to support this. It’s also clear that we must act very quickly to reduce our carbon use - there won’t be a second chance. We need to take action on this at local, national and international levels, and our eco-pledge tree is a way for local people to say how they’re helping to do this. Just pick up an eco-pledge leaf, sign your leaf, then tie it to our pledge tree.

    Hi ttainton,
This is great news and sounds like a really good event.
If you want it to appear on the homepage as an article you need to click Write on the homepage nav bar and put all the info in there. That way it will appear in recent stories - and will also allow you to have hyperlinks and add images too.
