W4B Renewable Energy have submitted plans for a massive biofuel power station in Avonmouth. This plant would import palm oil from Indonesia at massive environmental cost. A national group, Biofuelwatch, are holding a series of meetings in Bristol over the next month or so, and there is already a large Facebook group which SusWot members are welcome to join. This is not renewable energy. This is deforestation on a massive scale. How can it be 'green' to import biofuels half way across the world and burn them and call it renewable energy? Bristol has one of the leading clusters of environmental technology companies in the UK. I believe we must reject any attempts to build a new palm oil power plant. Please sign our petition at tinyurl.com/yjk5f6m It is heartening to see so many environmental groups supporting this campaign, and I intend to make a statement to full Council next month to highlight the strength of the opposition.
