People in Westbury-on-Trym and others parts of Bristol are opening their doors this weekend to showcase ways they have made their homes more comfortable to live in, more energy efficient and cheaper to run.

Many of our homes are old and not energy smart but more and more householders are improving them to make them fit for the future.

As part of the Bristol Green Doors event this weekend, householders across the city will be showcasing a range of measures and technologies including no-cost behaviour changes, low cost improvements, such as insulation, draught proofing and low-energy lighting etc, and state-of-the-art technologies such as solar thermal, solar PV, rainwater harvesting and mechanical ventilation and heat recovery.

The event involves more than 50 homes citywide including some in Westbury-on-Trym where a 1950s semi in Sheepwood Gardens and a 1930 semi in Southdown Road will be opening their doors to show what can be done. You can find also out more at a 'hub' at Westbury Library today and at Holy Trinity Church tomorrow.

Next weekend Sustainable Westbury on Trym (SusWot) is hosting its second Eco Fiesta. On Sunday the 19th the High Street will be specially pedestrianised and there will be stalls, entertainment and competitions.

You will have the chance to find out how to 'green' your home - save money on energy bills, make your home more cosy, and reduce your carbon footprint.
