A man had to be cut from his vehicle this morning after colliding with a tree which had fallen into a Bristol road.
The man's black Rover struck the tree which had come down on the junction of Sandyleaze and Canford Lane in Westbury-on-Trym at around 6.15am.
Avon and Somerset police and fire service attended the scene.
Members of the fire service removed the roof of the vehicle to extract the man, who is in his 40s, and he was transferred to Bristol Royal Infirmary.
His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
Police closed the road between Sandyleaze and Coombe Lane between 6.42am and 7.40am to deal with the situation.
A spokeswoman for Avon and Somerset police said: "Police were called to a road traffic collision in Canford Lane at 6.20am where a black car had collided with a tree which had fallen into the road. The driver of the vehicle received some injuries which are not thought to be serious.
"The road was shut between Sandyleaze and Coombe Lane between 7.42am and 7.40am while officers dealt with the situation."
A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "The male driver inside the vehicle was thought to be suffering with shoulder, neck and suspected spinal injuries so the crew used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle and put him on a spinal board. He was then transferred to hospital."

I think this article is very misleading!!! The driver of the black Rover lost control of his vehicle as he was travelling in the direction of Combe Dingle and struck the tree by climbing on to the pavement, span a few times and losing one of his car's front wheel in the process. In order to do all this, he must have been driving at some speed, well above the 30mile/hr speed limit for this road. Trully, he must consider himself extremely lucky to escape with just minor injuries. It is not the first time that an accident of such magnitude has taken place at the exact spot where a motorcyclist has lost his life almost 10years ago when his high performance bike struck a vehicle parked off the road exactly opposite where the Rover driver struck the tree, travelling also in the direction of Combe Dingle! As it happens, the transport authorities will take little notice of this event unless accidents of this nature occur more frequently and with fatalities to introduce some more effective speed regulation measures... For the residents of this stretch of road it has become a constant threat for even driving in or out of the drives because fellow road users do not observe the required speed limit. On behalf of the local residents, I urge the Bristol Transport Authorities to review their policy for this road, hopefully very soon so that we don't have to witness unecessary deaths in our streets
