Celebrating Westbury-on-Trym

Wouldn't it be great if Westbury-on-Trym had a day dedicated to celebrating the local traders and community? The shops could be decked out with bunting, roads closed to traffic (but not to block cars getting to the free car park, of course!) and it could be a fun day for all to enjoy.
What does anyone else think about this? I think it would bring people into the village and help make it a stronger community as well as hopefully bringing more customers into the area - which has to be good for everyone, especially the traders that have managed to stay open during these hard recession times.

We're lucky to have such a great community. Be great to have a day like this to meet even more of the residents. Bunting... oh yes!

ReportI do feel that this website needs more publicity too so that it will make more people aware of events that are planned for the future in westbury. I am not sure how many people know on this site that there is a Eco event planned for westbury village in September this year. I am not 100% sure but i think it is being held in the high street

ReportGetting an association sounds pretty key. Why would businesses NOT want to join - it would benefit everyone?

ReportThere are currently plans being worked on to gather as many traders together under a trading association so that such days can be organised. The village is lacking in a wow factor to draw customers to the area and it is the plan of the trading association to have days where areas of the village will be closed to traffic but this is only with the consent of the local police authority. A questionaire for businesses in the village is in the offing and once the information has been collected with people's views the association would have some basic information as to what business think need to change to improve footfall. Any people interseted in joining the association can contact Mr Spencer Luton at Bristol Key & Security and even if you are not a Business owner but live in the village and have a view please feel free to let us know your opinion.
