This afternoon 21 Eco Warriors from Elmlea Junior School helped to colour their community by planting spring bulbs and flowers.
One girl and one boy from each class is an Eco Warrior - children that are involved in living more sustainable lives, and encourage others to do the same.
Their Eco leader Beth Lem, a Year Three teacher said: "Last year, Elmlea was awarded the Green Flag Eco School Status. I joined the school in September and have taken over the, previously very successful, role of leading the Eco Warriors.
"The Green Flag award is reviewed every two years, so I am going to make sure that we don't rest on our laurels and continue the good work."
"Every term the Eco Warriors will have a project to work on which will focus on subjects such as waste and recycling and conserving electricity.
"The school has posters in the classrooms reminding pupils to turn off lights and a lot of the lights are automatic."
The school was fitted with solar panels in February. This means that when the school is not in use the power created by the solar panels can be sold back to the National Grid.
Today was the first Eco Warrior activity of the new year. The children had received 250 tulip bulbs from The Big Bulb Plant in association with Eden Project and the International Flower Bulb Centre.
The weather was kind to the children as they planted their bulbs helped by the school site caretaker Richard Bolger and Bristol City Council Parks and Estates gardeners Marie Burke and Phil Meachin.
The Eco Warriors planted bulbs spelling out the word "Elmlea" in one section, scattered in another and tubs and pots were also planted with heather and pansies.
