February was marked by major championships in cross country and indoors.

Some athletes failed to make the mark but many others succeeded and, while some of those were expected, there were also a few surprises which should give our judges food for thought when selecting the Easy Runner athlete of the month for February.

The winner, who will be revealed in next weekend's Evening Post, will receive a pair of training shoes from Easy Runner, Bristol's leading athletics shop.

Felix McGrath: The 15-year-old Westbury Harriers' athlete won the fourth and final Gloucestershire League cross country race at Cheltenham's Pitville Park.

Then finished eighth in the Gwent League fixture at Brecon, before a solid 18th – and second Avon runner home – in the inter boys' race at the South West Schools.

Lauren Ellis: The 15-year-old ran very well to finish sixth in the final Gloucestershire League cross country race, to lead Westbury Harriers to team victory. Was seventh in the Gwent League the week after before finishing 48th in the inter girls' race at the South West Schools. James Laurence: The Avon teenager, who was the athlete of the match at the Avon Championships, was third in the Under-15 boys' all-rounder competition at the South West Sportshall Championships.

Zak Tobias: The 15-year-old Bristol & West AC runner opened the month with victory in the Under-15 boys' race at the fourth Gwent Cross Country League fixture in Brecon. But that was nothing compared to his excellent sixth place in the English Cross Country Championships in Leeds, a massive improvement from 52nd 12 months ago.

Alice Carpenter: Best ever run for the 17-year-old Westbury Harrier to finish fifth overall, and second Avon runner, in the senior girls' race at the South West Schools' Cross Country Championships at Truro School.

Scott Bajere: Improving 17-year-old Bristol & West AC sprinter won a bronze medal in the Under-20 men's 60 metres with a PB of 7.06secs at the Midland Indoor Championships in Birmingham. Also improved his indoor PB to 22.82secs for 200m in the Birmingham Games.

● Anyone interested in joining a group of runners attempting to run the 45-mile long Community Forest Path through the Green Belt around Bristol should mark Saturday, March 20 in the diary.

This is the official date of the Spring Equinox and the group are intending to set out from the Green Man's head in Ashton Court at 7am with the aim of finishing at exactly 5:32pm – the precise time of the Equinox.
