Red Maids School hosts regional science and engineering conference

Red Maids School has hosted a conference for Women in Science and Engineering drawing nearly 300 girls from sixth forms across the South West.

Helen Fennell, former Red Maid and national winner of the Women in Science and Engineering Award, opened the conference with a talk on the Glass Ceiling and Women in Science.

Her talk highlighted the skills necessary to suceed in the competitive world of science, and gave the students advice on how to progress up the career ladder.

Other speakers included Marie Noelle-Barton, who was awarded an MBE for her work promoting science and engineering to women, and the media presenter and broadcaster Kate Bellingham.

The day also included 19 workshops from companies including Nokia, BT and Aerospace.
