The chairman of Sustainable Westbury on Trym (SusWot), Andy O'Brien, has announced that Gordon Brown has now committed to attending the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen following Wake-Up Call events, one of which took place in WoT last Sunday.

On Sunday, September 20, SusWot held an Eco-Fiesta in the village (see Eco-Fiesta pictures here). SusWot said that global climate talks are in "shambles, and that world leaders were not even planning to attend December's UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen".

Andy O'Brien said: "We are very pleased that following lots of Wake-Up Call activity, like we did at the fiesta, Gordon Brown has now committed to attending the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.

"Thank you to all who helped make it such a success."

Supporters of the Tck, Tck, Tck campaign organised more than 1,500 Wake-Up Call events across 88 countries, with 100 plus events taking place in the UK. These were "flashmob" events where people get together, phone their leaders, then disperse again.

On Sunday, at 4.30pm people attending SusWot's first Eco-Fiesta called Gordon Brown's "Climate Change Line".

SusWot's next meeting is on Wednesday, October 14, 7:30pm at Westbury primary school.

Andy said: "We'll be planning our events for the coming months, and looking to build on the momentum of last Sunday.

"The council is currently asking for opinions on 20mph speed limits in Bristol. If you would like to take part details can be found here."

"Replies need to be in by September 30. The consultation is not just about the initial pilot areas, it's all Bristol."
