Westbury Wildlife Park update
By veiled | Thursday, March 17, 2011, 17:59
Following a meeting yesterday with two of the trustees of the Westbury Wildlife Park foundation, Jacki Young and Adrian Ashby i have permission to post the following information to anyone interested.
The basic plan is to develop the park in two main ways, firstly to open up a certain portion of the park to the public for recreational purposes to enjoy the surroundings and flora and fauna and secondly encourage (appropriate for the site) projects that can make use of the sites buildings and outdoor areas. The first stage is clearing the site of old fencing, animal enclosures and general debris and removing self seeded trees bramble and basically tidying the site up. If paths, ponds and the river can be made 'safe' then people can be admitted - very small groups for short periods of time is the thought, to see how it goes. The site will not be reopening as a Wildlife Park as it was in the past and if finance and/or liability and insurance issues prove too much of a problem then sadly the site simply cannot re-open to the general public at all. In terms of more specific projects, people will need to approach the trustees with proposals and then an assessment can be made of suitability. The Foundation needs voluntary support and financial donations to get this plan moving and then some degree of income from projects themselves to maintain and enhance the park environment for both the public access and specific projects.
Update 21/0412: PLEASE IGNORE this posting it is no longer of any relevance.

ReportHi Folks,
Regarding Largebigkey's comment, this is not the outcome i wanted at all and i am angry that certain guarantees were made and then not carried out making his involvement untenable . There is now activity on the site though what it is actually trying to achieve i don't know.
I would encourage anyone interested to get involved with the site BUT to only do so if they are given a clear plan or vision of what the trustees are actually trying to achieve, otherwise their time and effort will be wasted as mine and countless other people have found for the last THIRTY YEARS.
Veiled signing off for the last time.

ReportI have had a meeting to day with the trustees of the park. I have now decided because of the atmosphere between myself and one of the trustees not to proceed with this project. However the main trustee is adamant that they are going to get things moving. They have starting to work on the site and in the near future say they will need volunteers to help. I wish them all the best for there future plans.

ReportHi Apple 21,
Things are a little confused at the moment. Largebig key was hoping to start recruiting volunteers, set up a website and start managing his project. Unfortunately due to continuing problems with one of the trustees this hasn't happened. I am very frustrated and saddened by this situation that i thought had been resolved weeks ago. I am staying in touch with Adrian Ashby who effectively represents three of the four trustees of the foundation. Things are happening - i'm just not sure what exactly.
Regarding grants -Largebigkey and his plan have all that in sight, also SUSWOT and WOT business group are ready to be hooked up with but before all that there has to be a coherent plan publicized.
Hang in there....

ReportHello
Any news yet?
You may have thought of this already (and they could already be involved) but SUSwot use the Saturday market to promote their group so this could be a way of raising awareness for this project too
Also you mentioned in your report in March last year about proposals for use of the park, Im not sure if its relevant but worth considering but its either the lottery funding or government (not sure which) have grants available for community projects
