You can have your say on Westbury on Trym's traffic and transport issues and help decide where council money should be spent.

Westbury on Trym is part of a Neighbourhood Partnership (NP) with Henleaze and Stoke Bishop which was set up in November 2008.

Sam Parker, works for Bristol City Council as a Community Engagement Officer and is the Link Officer for this NP.

Sam told Westbury on Trym People what a Neighbourhood Partnership is.

Sam said: "Neighbourhood Partnerships are the council's answer to the Government's White Paper on a safer, stronger community.

"The council is allocating a budget to each partnership. Local residents, with an interest in the community have a discussion with the councillors about what they feel the money should be spent on,  the councillors then decide where to allocate it.

This particular NP - there are 14 across Bristol - was set up in November 2008 and the group of interested people have priortised three major areas that they feel are most in need.

These are:

    *Open Spaces, maintenance and environment

    * Social Care: young people and elderly

    * Traffic and Transport

Steering groups for the three areas above have been set up. An open meeting concerning Traffic and Transport in Westbury, Henleaze and Stoke Bishop will take place next Wednesday, October 21, at Henleaze Junior School, Park Grove, Henleaze at 7pm.

If you would like to have your say about traffic and transport in any of the three wards, Westbury on Trym, Henleaze, Stoke Bishop, please attend the open meeting on Wednesday.

Today, the Bristol Evening Post has launched a campaign to turn off unnecessary traffic lights at off-peak times and do away with some altogether.

The call comes following North Somerset Council switching off six sets of lights in the town's Cabstand area.

If you could remove one set of traffic lights in Bristol, which one would it be? The Bristol Evening Post has set up a web page for this campaign, where all your entries will be shown.

    The main issues for me are the way my road gets clogged up by inconsiderate parents picking their children up from school.  As there is no parking by the school on Channells Hill (Westbury Primary) the parents seem to park in Elmfield Rd.  Not only do they park where they want, some drive quite fast in a small and quite tight cul-de-sac.

    The second thing is the way the police drive like maniacs through the village - I cannot believe they speed the way they do. I have seen them clock speeds well in excess of 50mph coming across the roundabout and headng down Canford Lane.

    Bristol has chronic traffic problems and none are easily solvable, but if people were more considerate and used more common sense, things would improve considerably.
